To be applied starting with new Galaxy Watch models in the second half of the year
[Edaily Reporter Shin Young-bin] #Samsung Electronics has revamped the Samsung Health app and unveiled next-generation health features for the new Galaxy Watch, scheduled for release in the second half of the year. The strategy aims to help users more easily track physical changes in their daily lives and proactively manage their health.
Samsung Electronics announced that it will unveil the new health features for the Galaxy Watch through the revamped Samsung Health app starting on the 8th. Key new features include vital signs, heart health score, daily aerobic load, physical fitness index, and hearing. If a user wears the Galaxy Watch while sleeping for more than a week, the device analyzes five metrics—heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen saturation—to establish personal baseline values. Subsequently, if significant changes in these values are detected, the Galaxy Watch will provide notifications.
Samsung Health also offers a “Heart Health Score” for cardiovascular health management. This feature visualizes your heart health as a score based on trends in sleep, activity levels, body composition, and vascular stress, and provides personalized guidance.
Exercise management features have also been enhanced. “Daily Cardio Load” calculates the strain placed on the heart during moderate-to-vigorous physical activity to indicate the user’s daily exercise capacity. It helps users balance exercise and recovery to reduce the risk of exhaustion or injury.
The ‘Physical Fitness Index’ analyzes key metrics such as heart rate and maximum oxygen consumption, allowing users to compare their results with other Samsung Health users in the same age group. This enables users to identify their physical strengths and areas for improvement. Next-Generation Health Features on the Galaxy Watch (Photo: Samsung Electronics) Samsung Electronics has expanded the scope of health management to include the surrounding environment. The newly introduced “Hearing” feature measures ambient noise levels using the Galaxy Watch and analyzes the volume of audio played through Galaxy Buds. By combining noise levels and exposure time, it provides guidance for hearing protection.
Existing features are also being enhanced. Samsung has added trend charts to the “Antioxidant Index” feature introduced last year, allowing users to analyze changes in their eating habits alongside other health factors. Trend charts have also been added to the “Advanced Glycation End-Products (AGEs) Index,” which indicates metabolic health status, and the watch provides guidance on daily dietary management through related content such as blood sugar levels and recipes.
Park Heon-soo, Head of the Digital Health Team at Samsung Electronics’ MX Business Division, said, “Samsung Health is evolving to help users understand their health status more easily and intuitively by analyzing and providing AI-based insights from health data measured via the Galaxy Watch.” He added, “We will expand proactive and personalized health management experiences based on the Galaxy ecosystem’s connectivity and digital health technology.”
These new features will be available starting with the new Galaxy Watch models scheduled for release in the second half of the year. Previous models, such as the Galaxy Watch8, will be supported sequentially via future software updates.
