[Edaily Reporter Park Jeong-soo] #Solus Advanced Materials is accelerating its push into the North American market by ramping up mass production and supply of battery foil to a Japanese global battery manufacturer it secured as a new customer last year.

Solus Advanced Materials announced on the 4th that it began mass-producing and supplying battery foil to the customer in March of this year. This supply agreement was signed directly with Solus Advanced Materials’ Korean headquarters, rather than through an overseas subsidiary, enabling the company to serve both the North American and European markets. The company explained that all supplied products are high-end battery foils that have passed the global battery manufacturer’s rigorous quality and technical verification processes.
The company assessed that this supply deal has once again demonstrated its technical expertise and mass production competitiveness in battery foil. Notably, this client is positioning energy storage systems (ESS) for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers—in addition to electric vehicle batteries—as a key growth driver in the North American market. With the expansion of AI data centers driving increased investment in power infrastructure and rising demand for ESS, the related battery market is also expected to grow rapidly.
This customer is also expanding its production capacity in North America by launching a second factory, in addition to its existing production base in the U.S. The industry anticipates that materials companies with established local production bases will benefit as the importance of supply chain stability and local procurement grows.
Solus Advanced Materials plans to respond to growing demand in the North American market by leveraging its battery foil plant in Quebec, Canada, which is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The company intends to continuously increase its supply volume in line with the client’s expanding investments in North America.
The company expects the profitability of its battery foil business to gradually improve as increased supply volumes, improved selling prices, and enhanced production efficiency work in tandem.
The battery industry analyzes that increased investment in North American AI data centers is driving demand for energy storage system (ESS) batteries, expanding the battery market—which was previously centered on electric vehicles—into the data center power infrastructure sector. Consequently, the customer base for battery foil is also expected to diversify.
An official from Solus Advanced Materials stated, “There is a growing trend among global customers to expand their investments in North America and implement supply chain diversification strategies.” The official added, “While we are currently supplying from our Hungarian plant, we plan to secure stable supply capabilities based on our Canadian production base in the future. This will allow us to expand cooperation with our customers and further strengthen our competitiveness in the North American market.”
