According to MP Doctor on the 9th, as of 9:10 a.m. today, Samsung Electronics is trading at 308,000 won, up 12,500 won (4.23%) from the previous trading day. It rose as high as 312,000 won in early trading, briefly regaining the "310,000 won" level.
At the same time, SK Hynix is trading at 2.04 million won, up 129,000 won (6.75%) from the previous close. It rose as high as 2.066 million won in early trading. Both stocks had shown strength in the pre-market session before the regular market opened.
This is interpreted as a result of improved investor sentiment following a broad rebound in semiconductor stocks on the New York Stock Exchange overnight. As expectations for a easing of geopolitical risks in the Middle East spread, bargain-hunting buying flowed into tech and semiconductor stocks.
On the 8th (local time), the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) rose 5.61% on the U.S. stock market. Micron Technology (9.87%), Intel (11.19%), and AMD (5.14%) surged.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, said, "Buoyed by the rebound in U.S. semiconductor stocks, the KOSPI 200 overnight futures trading up around 5.5%, and the stabilization of the sharp rise in the exchange rate following government intervention, the market is expected to recover from the previous day’s sharp decline, led by heavily sold-off leading stocks such as semiconductors."
