[Edaily Reporter Park Jeong-soo] Acryl, a company specializing in AI Transformation (AX) infrastructure, announced on the 9th that it will participate in the "Bio-Multimodal Foundation Model Construction Project," a new initiative under the Ministry of Science and ICT’s "2026 Bio-Medical Technology Development Project."
This national R&D project aims to build an AI model that can be utilized for brain disease research and precision medicine by integrating and training on pathological images, genetic and protein information, and EEG data. The project will run from June 2026 to December 2030, with a total budget of approximately 7.6 billion won. Acryl will participate as a joint research partner with Korea University Anam Hospital.
The core of the research is the development of the “CellularSpace Foundation Model,” which integrates five types of data—pathological images (H&E, WSI), spatial transcriptomics, spatial proteomics, single-cell transcriptomics (scRNA), and brainwave data (EEG, SEEG)—for training. The model aims to analyze cell-cell interactions, spatial heterogeneity within tissues, and the brain microenvironment to support diagnosis, predict prognosis, and inform treatment strategies.
Acryl is responsible for building the AI training infrastructure, multimodal alignment training, model integration, and operational evaluation. The company plans to integrate and process various types of bio-medical data by leveraging its training, deployment, and operational technologies based on its proprietary AI platform 'Jonathan,' as well as its capabilities in federated learning of medical data, data harmonization, and quality control.
Korea University Anam Hospital will be responsible for the clinical validation of the developed models. The company plans to verify model performance by predicting survival rates and recurrence rates in brain tumor patients, the likelihood of discontinuing medication in epilepsy surgery patients, and the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Acryl’s strategy is to use this project as an opportunity to expand its medical AI business scope from electronic medical records (EMR) and text-based analysis to include pathological imaging, biomolecular information, and EEG-based analysis. Based on this, the company plans to expand its business into AI infrastructure for hospitals and research institutions, analysis platforms for pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and solutions supporting precision medicine and new drug development.
Park Oejin, CEO of Acryl, stated, “We have validated our medical AI capabilities and productization potential through projects such as Jonathan, Areum.H, and NADIA-ANE.” He added, “Through this project, we will build a bio-multimodal foundation model applicable to precision medicine for brain diseases and contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the domestic bio-medical AI ecosystem.”
