Hanchang Paper announced on the 10th that it is currently producing and evaluating initial prototypes with the goal of mass-producing carrier tape used in the MLCC manufacturing process.
MLCC carrier tape base paper is a component that determines process yield by ensuring the precise placement and stable supply of ultra-small electronic components in the surface mount technology (SMT) process.
Currently, Japanese paper manufacturers effectively hold a monopoly on MLCC carrier tape base paper. As MLCCs become smaller and higher-capacity, the importance of carrier tape base paper is growing due to increasing demands for fine alignment, dimensional stability, and electrostatic control.
Hanchang Paper is currently pursuing this development based on the advanced base paper manufacturing technology it has accumulated in the domestic white base paper market. As the leading manufacturer of high-grade white base paper, the company has expanded its supply of products for high-tech industries such as IT and biotechnology, and it is reported that high-tech industries currently account for more than 10% of its operating profit.
Hanchang Paper’s strategy is to secure a new growth foundation in the high-tech IT materials market through MLCC carrier tape base paper, which is difficult to replace with other materials.
An official from Hanchang Paper stated, “The price per gram of Hanchang Paper’s high-grade whiteboard paper has entered a high-value-added segment, being higher than that of some IT products,” adding, “Through the development of MLCC carrier tape base paper—which is difficult to replace with other materials—we will transform from a traditional paper company into a cutting-edge IT paper company.”
