[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh-seok] Forecasts indicate that the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) market will continue its medium- to long-term growth trend, driven by expanding consumer demand and state-level eco-friendly policies. #Solus Advanced Materials announced on the 10th that, amid growing demands for the localization of battery supply chains in North America, its competitive edge in local supply is being highlighted through the battery foil production base it is currently establishing in Canada.

According to the company, demand for battery foil and batteries in North America is expected to grow as the California Air Resources Board (CARB) continues to enforce its “ACC2 (Advanced Clean Cars 2)” zero-emission vehicle regulations and policies promoting the regional establishment of battery supply chains.
Recently, concerns have been raised in the U.S. about a potential slowdown in market growth due to the reduction of electric vehicle tax credits and moves to relax environmental regulations. However, analysts assess that actual consumer trends and state-led policy directions still point toward the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
In the medium to long term, the ACC2 regulations—adopted by 13 states, including California—are cited as a key driver of market expansion. This program mandates a phased increase in the share of electric vehicles in new car sales, with the goal of achieving a 100% transition to electric vehicles by 2035.
Although policy changes at the federal level—such as the reduction of EV incentives and the relaxation of emissions standards—have been pursued since the launch of the second Trump administration, ACC2 remains independent as a state policy. Consequently, the industry expects that this regulation alone will expand the U.S. EV penetration rate from approximately 9% in 2025 to around 20% by 2030. This represents more than double the current sales volume.
The battery market is also expected to grow in tandem. Along with the spread of electric vehicles, demand for energy storage systems (ESS) is rapidly increasing, and recently, expanded investment in power infrastructure driven by the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers has emerged as a new factor driving demand for ESS batteries.
Solus Advanced Materials is currently building a battery foil production facility in Canada, following its facility in Europe. A company official explained, “This plant will serve as a hub for mass-producing and supplying battery foil in North America, and we expect it to play a crucial role in helping our customers diversify their supply chains and meet local procurement demands.”
