DH Autoware Develops IPP-SVM Based on On-Device AI… "Building a Next-Generation Safety Platform for Special-Purpose Vehicles"

[Edaily Reporter Park Jeong-soo] #DH Autoware, a company specializing in mobility electronics solutions, announced on the 11th that it will undertake a national research and development (R&D) project for its AI-based intelligent around-view platform, 'IPP-SVM,' to prepare for the next-generation automotive market.

This project, supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and organized by the Korea Institute of R&D Promotion, will run for a total of 21 months until December 2027, with joint research conducted in collaboration with the Korea Automobile Research Institute and DH Autoi.
As the automotive industry rapidly shifts toward a software-defined vehicle (SDV) environment, the company is focusing on securing integrated control capabilities by combining on-device AI with video control technology. The platform being developed through this project is a high-performance solution designed to address blind spots and perception delays—major causes of accidents involving large commercial and special-purpose vehicles. It combines 4-channel high-definition (FHD) vision sensor image fusion technology with AI object recognition technology to precisely detect pedestrians and obstacles in real time.
In particular, by applying co-design technology—which organically integrates hardware and software—and model lightweighting, the company aims to reduce manufacturing costs while maintaining high-end performance. The vision is to significantly enhance the manufacturing competitiveness of domestic safety platforms by reducing reliance on expensive imported products and overcoming the security risks associated with low-cost alternatives.
Furthermore, this project will be carried out by linking the infrastructure of Gwangju Metropolitan City’s Future Mobility Specialized Complex with AI infrastructure. By establishing a self-contained future vehicle value chain within the region—covering the entire process from design to assembly, testing, and demonstration—the project aims to establish a successful model that leads the digital transformation (DX) of the traditional parts ecosystem.
Following the final demonstration, the company plans to fully enter the global commercial vehicle aftermarket in regions such as North America and Europe. Furthermore, the project is expected to have significant scalability into various future mobility sectors, including autonomous driving, smart logistics, and smart construction equipment.
A DH Autoware official emphasized, “We plan to commercialize a future mobility safety platform by combining Gwangju’s manufacturing base with our AI perception technology capabilities,” adding, “Based on our accumulated image processing technology, we will proactively expand our scope of application into the global aftermarket.”
The official further explained, “This project is currently in the development and harsh-environment validation phase. Future projections are based on targets derived from national R&D project plans and are subject to change depending on future development progress and market conditions.”
