Kukon Launches Full-Scale 'MCP-Based Data Business'

Pushing for Transition to ‘MCP Servers’... Targeting Demand for AI Agent Connectivity

[Edaily Reporter Kang Min-gu] Business data platform company #Kukon is launching a full-scale server-based data business using the "Model Context Protocol (MCP)," leveraging its experience over the past 20 years in collecting and integrating diverse data from the financial, public, logistics, and telecommunications sectors.

Kukon announced on the 15th that it is pursuing an MCP-based data business aimed at the era of AI agents.

Kukon plans to position itself as an “AI agent-dedicated data hub” by providing existing data in MCP format so that AI agents can utilize it directly.

MCP is a standard communication protocol that unifies connection methods to allow AI agents to directly query and utilize external data and systems. As the AI industry rapidly shifts toward AI agents that interact with external systems and handle tasks autonomously, the MCP-based ecosystem—which serves as the standard for connecting agents and external systems—is also expanding.

Global payment companies such as PayPal and Stripe have begun supporting AI agents to process payments directly using their existing infrastructure. In Korea as well, there is a growing trend, particularly in the financial industry, to actively explore the use of services incorporating AI agents. In the payment sector, companies are introducing MCP into their platforms to ensure compatibility with external AI coding tools and improve the efficiency of payment systems.

Kukon plans to launch an “AI Data Hub” on its business data platform, “Kukon.net,” this July and introduce MCP products. The company will initially list about 30 products, expand to approximately 100 by the end of the year, and gradually make the service available for all products by next year.

As a result, companies will be able to utilize external data required for AI agents in a standardized manner through Kucon alone, without having to manually integrate each data source individually. Kucon plans to prioritize converting highly usable and frequently accessed data into MCPs to simultaneously address the needs of companies newly adopting AI technology and existing customers pursuing AI transformation.

It is also stepping up its participation in the global standard ecosystem. On the 1st, Kucon joined the “AAIF (Agentic AI Foundation),” a global consortium under the Linux Foundation, and plans to begin participating in the MCP Working Group, which includes over 180 companies such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, Circle, Tron, and Stripe. Through this, the company aims to participate in global standard-setting discussions and secure competitiveness in the AI era.

Additionally, Kucon plans to expand its product lineup to utilize AI agents in the payment sector, following its success in data, and link these efforts with domestic and international payment businesses.

Kim Jong-hyun, CEO of Kucon, stated, “The key to the AI era is ensuring that agents have access to reliable data.” He added, “Building on the data collection and integration capabilities we have cultivated over the past 20 years, Kucon will evolve into a company that provides data directly usable by AI, going beyond APIs designed for human use.”
