[Edaily Reporter Kyung-young Kyung] #Kolon Industries FnC Division (Kolon FnC) announced on the 16th that it has reorganized its V Division, which will be responsible for new businesses based on intellectual property (IP), into an internal independent company.
Division V will separate the operations of Kolon Mall and focus on new business ventures. As IP has recently evolved into exclusive content assets with strong fan bases and symbolic value, Kolon FnC plans to develop differentiated business initiatives. The strategy is to reorganize Division V as an independent unit to accelerate decision-making and execution. A phased verification structure has been established through quarterly gate reviews to ensure both autonomy and business discipline.
The new business will expand from the core fashion sector to encompass lifestyle and cultural content in general. The business will be developed along two main axes: "Original IP," which involves launching brands based on IP directly planned by Kolon FnC and promoting collaborations between artists and brands; and "External IP," which involves creating new brands by combining with IP from domestic and international celebrities or characters. However, Kolon FnC plans to use these IPs solely for product manufacturing, while developing brand, marketing, and PR strategies outside of its existing framework to pursue new business opportunities.
Hwangbo Sang-woo, Chief IP Officer (CIPO), has been appointed as the head of Division V. Hwangbo, the newly appointed division head, is a global IP strategy expert who previously served as the head of HYBE’s story business division and as the founder of Studio LICO, a Naver Webtoon content production subsidiary known for titles such as “Return of the Volcano.” Kolon FnC plans to combine its fashion planning and manufacturing capabilities with its experience in the IP and content business to launch a new global IP business.
Division V has adopted the strategic slogan “Fan to Mass, Mass to Universe.” This reflects a phased growth strategy: building a core fan base, expanding that fandom to the general public, and then growing the resulting universe on a global scale.
The organization has evenly distributed personnel with a deep understanding of the fashion business alongside those with experience in IP, content planning, and fandom business, and plans to expand talent recruitment with a focus on brand creativity and content.
CIPO Hwang Bo-sang-woo stated, “Businesses based on fandom can expand beyond fashion into any field,” adding, “The V Division will devote all its efforts to building that core fan base.”
