[Edaily Reporter Lee So-hyun] Users will soon be able to directly call up ChatGPT during a conversation in a KakaoTalk chat room to ask questions and receive answers.

#Kakao announced on the 16th that it will introduce a "ChatGPT chatbot" feature available in KakaoTalk chat rooms.

This feature is available in both KakaoTalk group chats and one-on-one chats. Users can add the ChatGPT chatbot to a chat room where they are conversing with family, friends, or acquaintances and ask questions immediately.

To use the feature, select ‘Chatbot’ from the menu in the top-right corner of the chat room to add the ChatGPT chatbot. Then, in the chat room’s input field, mention the ChatGPT chatbot with the ‘@’ symbol and type your desired prompt. You can also enter a question by clicking the ‘ChatGPT’ button that appears on the keyboard toolbar at the bottom of the input field.

For example, if you type “@ChatGPT Tell me today’s weather” or “@ChatGPT Write me a birthday message,” ChatGPT will provide a real-time response within the chat room. After receiving a response, you can continue the conversation in the “ChatGPT for Kakao” service by tapping “View Details” at the bottom of the speech bubble.

Currently, prompts can only be entered as text. The service also supports image generation. If you request something like “@ChatGPT, draw a seascape,” it will provide an image that matches the user’s intent.

To make the chatbot easier to use, Kakao has placed common commands such as “News,” “Horoscope,” and “Popular Questions” at the top of the input bar. When the chatbot responds, it directly mentions the user who asked the question in the chat room to clearly indicate who the response is addressed to.

Kakao previously launched “ChatGPT for Kakao” in October of last year, developed in collaboration with OpenAI. As of last May, the cumulative number of subscribers to ChatGPT for Kakao exceeded 11 million. Kakao is expanding the integration between ChatGPT for Kakao and KakaoTalk to allow KakaoTalk users to experience AI more easily in their daily lives.

The company is also enhancing “Kakao Tools,” an AI agent that integrates with both internal and external Kakao services. Kakao plans to use this to expand its AI agent ecosystem.

Yoo Yong-ha, Performance Leader at Kakao AI Connect, stated, “Thanks to the chatbot feature, users can now utilize AI more easily and effectively while chatting on KakaoTalk,” adding, “We will lead the popularization of AI in everyday life through the organic integration of KakaoTalk and AI.”

These updated features are available in the latest version of KakaoTalk (26.5.0 or higher).

Meanwhile, Kakao is also rolling out updates to enhance the user experience of KakaoTalk. First, the message input field has been moved to the bottom of the screen to make conversations appear more natural and continuous. Documents written in Markdown format—including titles, lists, and highlighted text—can now be viewed with their original formatting intact.

The “Channel Overview” feature has also been improved to display KakaoTalk Channel coupon benefits sorted by the largest discount amounts. A new “Channel Coupons” card has been added to the Wallet. Additionally, “Game Chips,” which offers H5 games playable without installing a separate app, has been added to the “More” tab.
