Hugreen Sees Green Remodeling Inquiries Rise Fivefold Compared to the Previous Month
[Edaily Reporter Kim Young-hwan] With record-breaking heat waves and frequent rainfall forecast, the window industry is experiencing a rare surge in activity. Analysts say the market for high-insulation windows is poised for growth, driven by rising demand to replace aging windows to reduce summer cooling costs, coupled with the government’s resumption of its Green Remodeling interest subsidy program for the first time in three years. With the program resuming after a three-year hiatus, major companies such as #LX Hausys, #KCC Glass, and Kumho Petrochemical’s Hugreen have all stepped up their related marketing efforts. Hugreen also announced that Green Remodeling-related inquiries received over the past month—starting in mid-last month—increased approximately fivefold compared to the same period the previous month.
Windows are considered a key factor in determining a building’s energy efficiency. Aging windows are identified as a major cause of heating and cooling energy loss, as they frequently allow external heat to enter and cooled air to escape. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, average temperatures in June and July of this year are likely to be higher than normal, and precipitation is also forecast to be similar to or higher than normal. As climate risks increase, demand for window replacements is rising to maintain indoor temperatures and conserve energy.
Industry experts predict that the window market will remain relatively robust despite the downturn in the construction sector. In fact, even as the new-home market contracts, demand for remodeling—particularly in older apartments and townhouses—continues to grow steadily. An industry official noted, “While window replacements were previously driven mainly by the desire to reduce winter heating costs, demand is now also growing as people seek to cut summer cooling expenses,” adding, “The market for high-performance windows is expected to continue its growth trend over the medium to long term.”
