[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon] #Estraffic, a company specializing in transportation AI, has been selected as the representative organization for the Gangwon region in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s “AI Specialized Pilot City (K-AI City)” project.
Estraffic announced on the 19th that it had been officially selected as the representative organization for the Gangwon region in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s call for proposals for the AI Specialized Pilot City project. With the selection of the “Wonju AI Innovation City: A City That Understands and Moves on Its Own” project—proposed by a consortium led by Estraffic—the company will oversee the project moving forward. (Courtesy of Estraffic) This project aims to establish South Korea’s first K-AI City. Three local governments from both the Gangwon and Chungcheong regions participated in the call for proposals, and a total of two regions—one from each region—were selected.
The consortium led by Estraffic includes seven organizations: Hyundai Motor Company, NHN Cloud, Saltlux, Seoul Robotics, the Wonju Future Industry Promotion Agency, and Kangwon National University’s Wonju Campus. The project covers the entire city of Wonju, with a 3.6㎢ area within the Gangwon Wonju Innovation City designated as the priority project zone.
The consortium plans to utilize LiDAR-based object recognition technology and digital twins to develop autonomous mobility, disaster and safety management, and healthcare services. It will also work to create an integrated AI ecosystem spanning housing, transportation, and healthcare by linking with local AI infrastructure, such as an industrial GPU center and an NVIDIA-certified training center.
The project will begin with a basic concept study this July, aiming for designation as a pilot city in 2027 and project completion in 2030.
An Estraffic official stated, “Being selected as the lead organization for K-AI City is a recognition of our company’s traffic AI technology and smart city capabilities,” adding, “We will contribute to establishing Wonju as a world-class AI city model and expanding this model nationwide.”
