[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon] #Peptron has secured a U.S. patent related to its long-acting formulation technology for semaglutide.
Peptron announced on the 19th that it had received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent related to a long-acting formulation of semaglutide and has completed payment of the registration fee. The patent is expected to be officially registered following the USPTO’s issuance procedures. This patent pertains to long-acting microsphere formulation technology containing semaglutide or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts. The technology enables sustained drug release by utilizing specific drug concentrations and combinations of biodegradable polymers, and can be applied to the development of treatments for obesity, diabetes, and metabolic disorders.
The company recently presented research results on “PT403,” a once-monthly semaglutide-based candidate drug for the treatment of obesity and diabetes, at the American Diabetes Association (ADA 2026) conference held in New Orleans, USA. The company explained that this patent registration process is highly significant in terms of securing intellectual property rights in the U.S. for the core formulation technology of PT403.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that leads the global obesity and diabetes treatment market. With the obesity treatment market growing rapidly, interest in long-acting formulation technologies that reduce the frequency of dosing is also increasing.
Peptron is developing long-acting therapeutics based on its proprietary drug delivery platform, “SmartDepot™.” PT403 is also a one-month-acting candidate drug for obesity and diabetes that utilizes SmartDepot technology.
A Peptron official stated, “This payment of the registration fee is an important follow-up step toward securing a U.S. patent for the long-acting semaglutide formulation technology,” adding, “Following the presentation of PT403 research results at ADA 2026, we have now entered the final stages of securing U.S. intellectual property rights for our core formulation technology, and we will continue to strengthen the global competitiveness of the SmartDepot platform.”
Meanwhile, alongside the development of PT403, Peptron is also pursuing a strategy to expand its global commercialization efforts and intellectual property portfolio.
