As Summer Drags On, 'Summer Suits' Break the Off-Season Trend

Maestro and Daks See Increased Sales of Summer Suits Styles Are Becoming More Diverse… Lineup Expanded to Include Resort Collections and More

[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] As summers grow longer, changes are emerging in Namsung fashion, which had traditionally centered on suits for spring, fall, and winter. Brands are strengthening their mid-summer suit lineups and introducing products made with functional materials, putting more effort into their “summer sales.”

According to LF(093050)on the 20th, MAESTRO has expanded its inventory of suits made with high-summer fabrics—developed in collaboration with Italy’s Zegna for this spring/summer (SS) season—by 50% compared to last year’s SS season. Daks has also increased both the number of summer suit styles and production volume by 100% each compared to the previous SS season. In particular, the brand has broadened its design options by shifting from a focus on solid colors to micro-check patterns.

Maestro is targeting the Namsung men’s suit market with suits made from “Island Fleece,” a summer fabric that offers breathability and quick-drying properties, while Daks is doing the same with suits made from Zegna’s “High-Performance Mohair,” a fabric that promotes air circulation and absorbs and wicks away sweat.

The lineup of Namsung summer clothing has also become more diverse. Daks has added a resort collection, and Maestro has expanded its resort wear offerings to include Hawaiian shirts and swim pants.

These changes are driven by the lengthening of the summer season. While the fashion industry initially viewed summer as an off-season, climate change has extended the summer, turning it into a season that cannot be overlooked.

This is translating into actual sales growth. Looking at sales of summer suits in April and May, Maestro saw a 50% increase year-over-year, while Daks saw a rise of about 30% over the same period. Maestro’s knitwear sales in May also surged by 167% compared to the same month last year, driven by increased sales of summer pleated knits.

An LF official stated, “As summers grow longer, there is a clear trend toward segmenting materials, styles, and launch timings according to specific periods—such as early summer, the rainy season, vacation season, peak summer, and late summer heat—rather than relying on a single summer collection.”
