Nota Inc. announced on the 23rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with LG Corp. to commercialize AI-based real-time Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) technology.

This MOU was signed to expand joint business opportunities in overseas transportation infrastructure markets by combining LG Corp.’s capabilities in global smart city and ITS projects with Nota Inc.’s AI model lightweighting and optimization technologies. The two companies plan to expand their scope of cooperation—from joint marketing, field validation, and development to business development and implementation—as they set out to target the global market.

Leveraging its capabilities in AI model lightweighting and optimization, Nota Inc. is implementing ITS technology capable of real-time video analysis even in edge environments. Through “NVA (Nota Vision Agent),” a video surveillance solution based on a generative vision-language model (VLM), Nota can recognize and understand on-site situations and provide various traffic control functions, such as traffic flow analysis, detection of unexpected incidents, and recognition of hazardous situations involving pedestrians and vehicles. In particular, the solution excels at reducing reliance on the cloud to enhance real-time performance and operational efficiency.

ITS is considered a prime application area for physical AI, as it enables AI to identify risk factors on actual roads and within urban infrastructure and support control and operational decision-making. Nota Inc. ensures the real-time performance and stability required in traffic environments through on-device AI optimization technology and supports the application of AI-based traffic management functions across various traffic infrastructure environments.

LG CNS has been advancing various ITS projects in the global smart city market, centered on the Integrated Operations Center (IOC), which precisely analyzes and predicts citywide traffic flow. The two companies plan to organically integrate Nota Inc.’s ITS technology with LG CNS’s proprietary AI smart city platform—embedded in the IOC—to jointly address the demand for the digital transformation of traffic infrastructure and the advancement of AI-based traffic management.

Furthermore, the two companies plan to target the Americas as their primary market and jointly identify specific project opportunities where AI-based ITS technology can be applied. Through this, they aim to expand practical AI use cases that can contribute to solving urban traffic problems, such as alleviating traffic congestion, preventing accidents, and streamlining road operations.

The collaboration between LG CNS and Nota Inc. has already been demonstrated through the ITS deployment project in Nairobi, Kenya. Last year, Nota Inc. participated in the project to build the Nairobi Traffic Control Center, led by LG Corp., where it implemented a smart intersection system based on AI model lightweighting and optimization tailored to an edge computing environment, thereby establishing a track record of overseas ITS project collaboration.

Chae Myeong-su, CEO of Nota Inc., stated, “This agreement serves as an opportunity for Nota Inc.’s AI lightweighting and optimization technologies to expand into larger markets by combining with LG Corp.’s global ITS capabilities.” He added, “Since transportation is a key area where physical AI can create tangible value in urban infrastructure, we will develop AI-based intelligent transportation system solutions that can be applied in the field, leveraging the technological and business capabilities of both companies.”
