[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] SM Group’s automotive parts and battery company, SM BEXEL CO.,LTD.(010580), has completed the delivery of the first batch of ultra-compact ampoule batteries for the Cheonmu unguided missile system and is now preparing for follow-up projects. On the 26th, SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. announced that, following the establishment of a track record in mass production and delivery for special defense batteries used in the Cheonmu system, it is now building the infrastructure to handle additional orders.

These ultra-compact ampoule batteries are special defense-grade batteries installed inside the Cheonmu 230mm-class unguided rockets, serving to supply power so that the electronic devices within the rockets operate normally. As high-reliability products that must maintain stable performance even after long-term storage, they require long-term durability, instantaneous operational reliability, and consistent quality.
SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. began mass production of this product following approximately three years of development and evaluation, and started supplying it to Korea Defense Industry (KDI) in 2024. The first phase of the project was completed by the first quarter of 2026, with the supply volume reportedly totaling approximately 18 to 20 billion won.
Having achieved production stabilization and yield improvements during the supply of the first batch, the company expects that these improvements will have a significant positive impact on process stability and profitability for future additional orders. The company explains that, based on its established mass production experience and proven quality reliability, the likelihood of securing follow-on contracts is high.
SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. plans to expand its portfolio of specialized defense batteries through this project. In response to the growing demand for high-reliability, compact batteries driven by the accelerating electrification and unmanned transformation of weapon systems, the company intends to broaden its business scope to include military battery packs, power supplies for communication equipment, and battery solutions for drones and unmanned systems.
A company official stated, “Ultra-compact ampoule batteries are highly complex defense products that must satisfy all requirements for long-term storage stability, ultra-compact design, and the reliability of safety mechanism operation,” adding, “By securing a track record within the K-defense supply chain through this delivery, we have laid the groundwork for expanding our supply in the future.”
