[Edaily Reporter Han Kwangbeom ] LG Uplus ( LG Uplus(032640)) announced on the 28th that it presented case studies on corporate innovation centered on social contribution activities at the “Jeju Forum 2026,” held in Seogwipo, Jeju, on the 26th.
This year’s 21st Jeju Forum, which set “Global Governance and Cooperation in the Era of AI and Digital Innovation” as its core agenda, featured a session titled “Korea-China-Japan Entrepreneurs Forum 2026: Demographic Changes in East Asia and the Role of Corporate Innovation,” organized by the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS). In this session, which discussed how companies can create new growth opportunities amid the common challenges of an aging population and demographic shifts, LG Uplus was the only company from the domestic telecommunications industry to present a case study on corporate innovation.
During the session, Lee Myung-seop, Head of the CSR Innovation Team at LG Uplus, emphasized, “An important direction for innovation is not only creating new businesses to address the aging society but also redesigning existing services and businesses from a social perspective.” He explained that, particularly as a telecommunications service provider, activities such as voice phishing prevention education targeting the digitally vulnerable are areas that are closely linked to existing businesses while directly contributing to solving social problems.
Team Leader Lee stated, “We view problems arising during the use of telecommunications services not merely as customer issues but as broader social problems, and new value is created in the process of resolving them.” From this perspective, LG Uplus is continuously expanding its social contribution activities linked to its existing business.
The company has continued support activities based on its telecommunications capabilities, such as utilizing communication infrastructure to provide Wi-Fi and charging facilities at evacuation shelters for disaster victims, as well as lending power banks and operating disaster response vehicles. Additionally, recognizing the difficulty of evacuating with pets, the company is implementing initiatives to address gaps in the system, such as operating dedicated pet shelters.
The company is also adopting an approach that complements existing frameworks in its support for children. By providing relief kits and care programs for children in disaster shelters, LG U+ is enhancing the level of protection for vulnerable groups during disasters, while expanding social support through initiatives such as the “I Dream Challenge” program, which aims to bridge the educational gap.
LG Uplus plans to use this presentation at the Jeju Forum as an opportunity to share its business-based social problem-solving model both domestically and internationally, and to expand related case studies through inter-company collaboration. Lee Myung-seop, Head of the CSR Innovation Team, stated, “CSR is not a separate activity but a process of complementing areas that our existing business has not yet addressed,” adding, “LG Uplus’s direction is to create new opportunities at the intersection of business and society.”
