[Edaily Reporter Han Kwangbeom ] LG Uplus(032640)has partnered with GnCenergy Co., Ltd., a company specializing in power generation equipment, to ensure the stable construction and operation of its AI data center (AIDC).
LG Uplus announced on the 28th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GnCenergy Co., Ltd. at its Yongsan headquarters in Seoul and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of power infrastructure, including emergency generators to be installed in AIDCs.
This collaboration was initiated to resolve uncertainties that may arise during the procurement of power infrastructure equipment—essential for AIDC construction—and to establish a stable operational foundation. This is because, with the recent surge in demand for AI infrastructure, securing equipment—such as emergency generators—has become a key variable in data center construction schedules, with lead times for power equipment supply reaching nearly two years. LG Uplus expects this collaboration to help secure a stable supply chain and alleviate infrastructure supply gaps.
The two companies have agreed to collaborate on all AIDC-related power infrastructure projects moving forward, including the emergency generators to be supplied to the LG Uplus Paju AIDC currently under construction in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. They also plan to work together to strengthen the ability to respond promptly to critical equipment needs and to promote standardization with an eye toward future expansion and growth. Through these efforts, LG Uplus expects to further enhance its existing AIDC uninterrupted operation capability, which currently stands at 99.999% (5-Nine).
Jeong Sook-kyung, Senior Vice President in charge of the AIDC Business at LG Uplus, stated, “Since even a single power outage at an AI data center can lead to a large-scale service disruption, the stability of the power infrastructure is synonymous with competitiveness.” She added, “We will secure core facilities reliably to strengthen our competitiveness in supplying AI infrastructure and continuously enhance the foundation for stable data center operations.”
Ahn Byung-chul, CEO of GnCenergy Co., Ltd., said, “Amid rapidly growing demand for power facilities in AI data centers, our collaboration with LG Uplus has enabled us to respond to market uncertainties.” He added, “Based on the capabilities we have built in the data center power infrastructure sector, we will expand our collaboration with LG Uplus.”
