[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] Fintech company Finger Inc.(163730)has secured a contract for the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s carbon-neutral platform construction project and is expanding its public climate-tech business.
Finger Inc. announced on the 1st that it had been awarded the contract for the “Construction of a Mileage Platform for Residents’ Greenhouse Gas Reduction Initiatives,” a project being promoted by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. This project involves building an integrated platform that uses data to calculate and verify greenhouse gas reduction activities by residents and tourists, and rewards them with local currency. Finger Inc. will oversee the project as part of a consortium formed with climate tech firm Hush Partners and electronic receipt specialist The Real.
Once the platform is established, various carbon reduction activities—such as the use of reusable containers and cups, beach plogging, and the adoption of high-efficiency heat pumps—will be automatically calculated based on MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) principles.
In particular, Finger Inc. plans to build an automated linkage system that uses its settlement and fintech infrastructure to convert mileage earned through carbon reduction activities into “Tamna-jeon,” Jeju’s local currency, in real time. The company envisions that this will reduce the administrative burden associated with manual verification and establish a virtuous cycle where rewards for carbon neutrality efforts lead to local consumption.
Finger Inc. has previously accumulated relevant experience by promoting renewable energy and International Emissions Trading (ITMO) projects in Laos. The company intends to apply this experience and its fintech expertise to this project to enhance the platform’s reliability and scalability.
Furthermore, the company plans to use this project as an opportunity to refine a public climate platform model that integrates carbon reduction data, rewards, and settlement, and to expand it to other local governments and the private sector in the future.
Finger Inc. official stated, “We will successfully establish an ‘income-return climate partnership’ model where residents’ eco-friendly practices lead to tangible economic rewards,” adding, “By refining the public climate platform—which integrates carbon reduction data, rewards, and settlement—we will expand the project to other local governments and the private sector in the future.”
