NUVOTEC Co., Ltd announced on the 2nd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mofing.ai, an AI-based spatial information and digital twin company, for the “development and commercialization of AI and digital twin-based technology for the diagnosis and rehabilitation of aging pipelines.”
This agreement aims to build an integrated solution spanning from pipeline diagnosis to repair and maintenance by combining Mofing-i’s AI pipeline diagnosis, video and LiDAR data analysis, and digital twin technologies with NUVOTEC Co., Ltd’s capabilities in water and sewer pipe manufacturing, trenchless rehabilitation, and construction.
Through this collaboration, the two companies plan to advance AI-based pipeline condition diagnosis and evaluation; develop anomaly analysis technologies based on CCTV, robot, video, acoustic, and LiDAR data; link diagnostic results to optimal repair and rehabilitation methods; and build a digital twin-based maintenance system. They will also participate in government research and development (R&D) projects and local government demonstration projects, while jointly expanding into domestic and international markets.
This collaboration is particularly significant in that it goes beyond the development of simple diagnostic technologies to focus on establishing a commercialization model that links diagnostic results to actual construction. Mofing Eye automatically analyzes anomalies such as cracks, damage, and deformation inside pipelines through iA, Inc. image analysis, while NUVOTEC Co., Ltd. applies optimal construction methods—such as trenchless rehabilitation, partial or full repairs, and pipeline replacement—based on these findings.
Through this, the two companies aim to move beyond the existing inspection-centric management approach and establish an integrated pipeline management system encompassing “AI diagnosis—condition assessment—repair and construction—maintenance.”
Furthermore, they plan to jointly participate in research and development projects led by government ministries such as the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as well as in local government initiatives to repair aging pipelines and smart infrastructure demonstration projects, with the goal of advancing their technology and expanding their business.
Amid growing concerns over the safety of underground facilities—such as recent torrential rains, ground subsidence, and damage to aging sewer pipes—the combination of AI-based proactive diagnostics and trenchless rehabilitation technology is expected to contribute to improved maintenance efficiency and safety.
A company official stated, “In the field of pipeline management, the key competitive advantage lies in swiftly and accurately translating diagnostic results into repairs and rehabilitation,” adding, “By combining AI-based diagnostic technology with our construction capabilities, we will lead the smart pipeline management market and actively pursue the expansion of public infrastructure projects.”
The two companies plan to secure the reliability of their technology through joint pilot projects and aim to expand into overseas markets, including the Middle East and Southeast Asia, beyond domestic local governments and public institutions.
