At its regular session held on the 2nd (local time), the La Plata City Council unanimously passed a resolution appointing BTS as the city’s “Guest of Honor.” According to La Plata City ordinances, “Guest of Honor” is the highest level of official honor bestowed upon distinguished visitors to the city or world-renowned masters of culture and the arts.
The City Council cited BTS’s cultural influence, their efforts to promote the rights of young people worldwide, and their ongoing international activities in the cultural sphere as the reasons for the selection. In particular, the fact that this resolution passed unanimously—an unusual occurrence in the City Council—is seen as further evidence of BTS’s global stature.
Local media outlet Infocielo also highlighted BTS’s influence, giving significant coverage to the fact that the City Council approved the motion with unanimous support. Additionally, it was reported that La Plata Mayor Julio Alak is continuing to provide administrative support at the city level, including reviewing public safety and traffic measures to prepare for large-scale audience movements ahead of the concert and coordinating accommodation plans with the hotel association and lodging providers.
BTS will hold their “BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’” concerts over three days—October 21, and October 23–24—at the Estadio Único de La Plata in Buenos Aires. This will be the first concert by a Korean artist at that stadium, and it is drawing significant attention locally.
The designation as “Honorary Guest” holds special significance not only as a gesture of welcome ahead of the concerts but also as official recognition by a foreign local government of BTS’s cultural influence and global standing.
