Sammi Metal Products Co., Ltd. announced on the 6th that its cumulative order value for medium-speed engine connecting rods—used in engines manufactured by global engine manufacturer Everllence (formerly MAN ES)—reached 8.1 billion won in the first half of this year, marking a 56.8% increase compared to the same period last year. The company explained that while it has been expanding its supply of medium-speed engine connecting rods based on its position as the domestic market leader, the increase in orders was driven by the expanding range of applications for medium-speed engines—beyond traditional shipbuilding sectors such as ships and naval vessels to include onshore generators for AI data centers.
Since successfully localizing the production of medium-speed engine connecting rods in 1986, Sammi Metal Products Co., Ltd. has maintained the top market share in Korea for an extended period after passing Everence’s technical validation. The company currently supplies medium-speed engine connecting rods to major engine manufacturers, including Everence, STXEngineCo.,Ltd., and Hanwha Engine.
A company representative stated, “As we have continuously supplied connecting rods for Everence engines and built up a track record, we are also expecting new orders from STXEngineCo.,Ltd. and Hanwha Engine, which have signed licensing agreements with Everence.”
The company is also accelerating the development of high-value-added products. Through consistent research and development (R&D), Sammi Metal Products Co., Ltd. has expanded its product portfolio beyond existing marine products to include new offerings, and since last year, it has been supplying connecting rods for the ‘L35/44DF’ engine to STXEngineCo.,Ltd. and Hanwha Engine. The company explained that medium-speed engines, in addition to serving as the main power source for the shipbuilding industry, are beginning to be utilized as power generation infrastructure for AI data centers in the U.S. and elsewhere, allowing them to benefit from the growing demand for next-generation power infrastructure.
The company is also strengthening its production capacity in response to the expansion of orders for marine engines. Sammi Metal Products Co., Ltd. is investing a total of 9 billion won to expand its marine engine machining plant and plans to maximize earnings growth across its diverse range of marine engine products—including medium-speed engines—by leveraging the production capacity gained through this expansion.
A company official stated, “Having secured an unrivaled market position in the domestic medium-speed engine connecting rod sector, we expect to secure additional orders as medium-speed engines are increasingly utilized as power generation infrastructure for AI data centers in the U.S. and elsewhere,” adding, “We will also pursue performance growth in high-value-added business sectors such as defense, nuclear power, and heavy equipment, leveraging our differentiated technological capabilities.”
