[E-Daily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] Ki Hyun of the group MONSTA X has fully channeled the vocal prowess he demonstrated through the group’s activities into his solo album. As this marks his first solo comeback since completing his military service and his first new release following the group’s full-group activities, he is determined to once again establish his presence as a solo vocalist, moving beyond his role as “MONSTA X’s main vocalist.” MONSTA X’s Ki Hyun (Photo courtesy of Starship Entertainment) According to his agency, Starship Entertainment, on the 7th, Kihyun will release his second mini-album, “BORDERLINE,” at 6 p.m. that day via various music streaming platforms. This marks his first solo album in approximately 3 years and 9 months, following “VOYAGER” (2022) and “YOUTH” (2022). “BORDERLINE” is more than just a comeback album. It is the result of Kihyun finding his own answer to the question of what kind of music he does best, drawing on the energy he honed through his activities with MONSTA X and the deeper emotional depth he has cultivated since his military discharge. The message—that he will move forward by trusting his own choices rather than searching for the “right answer” on the borderline—aligns with Kihyun’s current approach to music. Once again, rock—Kihyun’s greatest strength—serves as the central pillar of this album. By organically weaving together explosive high notes, a crisp band sound, and delicate emotional expression, he has further sharpened his unique identity as a “rock vocalist.” This reflects his determination to go beyond the powerful vocals he showcased in MONSTA X and firmly establish his identity as a solo artist. The title track “So Good” most succinctly embodies this direction. It sings of the moment when one decides to trust one’s own instincts, even amidst the constant pressure to conform to others’ expectations, and the gradually intensifying guitar riffs combined with Kihyun’s signature explosive high notes maximize the sense of liberation. The album features a total of seven tracks, including the title track “So Good,” as well as “Borderline,” “Stealin’ Air,” “Domino,” “Lazy Day,” “Late Night Drive,” and “Howling.” Although the genres and moods vary, all the tracks are connected by a single thread reflecting Ki-hyun’s musical vision and are set to showcase his expanded vocal range.
