On the 8th, SLL announced, “We are partnering with the global short-form drama platform GoodShort to present the original short-form drama ‘Code Name: The Wicked Stepmother.’”
“Code Name: The Wicked Stepmother” is planned as a 60-episode series, with each episode lasting approximately 1 minute and 30 seconds. Up-and-coming director Yang Ho-seok is directing, writer Yoon Yu is penning the script, and producer Kim Ji-won is leading production. The cast includes Lovelyz’s Jung Ye-in and actor Han Jeong-wan.
“Code Name: The Wicked Stepmother” tells the story of “Seol-hwa,” a former agent who died while on a mission, as she becomes possessed by the spirit of a wicked stepmother from a 1980s drama. Seol-hwa’s struggle to protect three children and survive—with the help of the system—in order to change her predetermined fate of a tragic death will unfold through the fast-paced, short-form drama format.
This project is particularly significant as it marks a collaboration between SLL and GoodShort, a global short-form drama platform. SLL stated, “Building on our existing capabilities in producing dramas, variety shows, and digital content, we are exploring new production possibilities in the rapidly growing short-form drama market. “In line with the nature of short-form content, which demands high immersion and fast-paced storytelling within a short runtime, we plan to concisely deliver genre-specific entertainment and character-driven narratives,” the company stated.
Additionally, the company explained, “‘Code Name: The Wicked Stepmother’ is a new Korean-language adaptation of a popular original work from a global short-form platform that has garnered over one million views,” adding, “Leveraging SLL’s production capabilities, we have strived to deliver content that allows viewers to quickly become immersed even in this new realm of short-form dramas.”
“Code Name: The Wicked Stepmother” is scheduled for global release on July 22 via GoodShort, a short-form platform operated by Singapore New Reading Technology Pte. Ltd., following post-production.
Meanwhile, Contentree Central, the parent company of SLL Central, has filed for rehabilitation proceedings, which is having both direct and indirect effects. In particular, the financial crisis at the Joongang Group has even raised the possibility of a stake sale.
The court recently decided to initiate rehabilitation proceedings for Contentree JoongAng. Contentree JoongAng must submit a rehabilitation plan by December 15.
