Singer and musical actress Ok Ju-hyun, formerly of the group Fin.K.L, made this statement in a lengthy post on her social media account on the 8th. “Ok Jangpan” is a term that originated from a post made on social media by musical actor Kim Ho-young during the 2022 controversy over the casting for the 10th-anniversary production of the musical “Elisabeth.” At the time, when allegations arose that he had interfered with Ok Joo-hyun’s casting, Kim Ho-young posted, “The days of ‘Asari-pan’ are over. Now it’s ‘Okjangpan,’” and the controversy escalated as some interpreted the post as targeting Ok Joo-hyun. Subsequently, Ok Joo-hyun filed a defamation lawsuit against Kim Ho-young but later withdrew it. In this statement, Ok Joo-hyun revisited the controversy from four years ago, beginning by saying, “It took me a long time to write this. Some of you may think this is water under the bridge, while others may wonder why I’m bringing it up again now.” She continued, “Until now, I thought it was best to pretend everything was fine and remain silent. I stayed silent because I didn’t want to harm my projects, the production companies, or my colleagues,” adding, “Now that I am not affiliated with any project or production company, I felt it was the right time to speak solely as the actress Ok Joo-hyun.” Ok Joo-hyun confided, “The label ‘Ok Jang-pan,’ which began with a single person’s remark, became a nickname attached to my name, and for a long time afterward, I had to endure the suspicions, ridicule, and criticism that phrase generated.” She continued, “That remark didn’t end as a simple joke or a passing incident. It actually affected my image, my advertising work, and my acting career,” adding, “To some, this may be an old story that has grown tiresome. But for me, it was an incident that left deep scars on my life and career as an actress.” Kim Ho-young (Photo courtesy of ShinSi Company)Regarding why she withdrew the complaint at the time, she explained, “After hearing the explanation from Kim Ho-young’s side—that ‘I have never targeted my older sister’ and ‘the post was intended to promote my friend’s father’s bamboo floor mats’—I decided not to pursue the matter.” Ok Ju-hyun said, “What I’m seeking isn’t a simple emotional feud,” but added, “If those words really weren’t directed at me, I want to ask why so many people thought of me, and why the harm and hurt caused by this have never once been explained to the public.” She continued, “I just hope you understand that this was not merely a nickname or a ‘meme,’ but an incident that actually affected an actress’s life, stage presence, and career.” Ok Ju-hyun concluded her post by saying, “I want to continue to be evaluated as an actress on stage,” and “This post today is my chance to finally tell my story in my own words—something I haven’t been able to do until now. Thank you for reading this long post.” Kim Ho-young has not yet issued a separate statement regarding this matter.
