[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] JTBC has paid the appearance fees for variety show cast members and the wages of production staff that had been delayed due to a financial crisis.
On the 8th, JTBC issued a statement saying, “We received court approval last week and have completed payment of outstanding dispatch fees and service charges that had been delayed due to the court’s approval process,” adding, “Based on the recently approved blanket authorization, we also completed payment today for outstanding appearance fees and external production costs for some variety shows.” JTBC apologized, saying, “We apologize to the cast members and affiliated companies for the unavoidable delay in the payment schedule while we were awaiting the court’s decision.” JTBC’s failure to pay variety show appearance fees came to light through a report by this publication. According to our report, JTBC was unable to pay the appearance fees for cast members of certain variety shows—including *Knowing Bros*, *Please Take Care of My Refrigerator*, and *Divorce Cooling-Off Camp*—on the scheduled payment dates, and sought understanding from the respective agencies by informing them that the payment schedule would be postponed. In response, JTBC stated, “While there have been some payment delays due to the corporate rehabilitation process, we are proceeding with payments in accordance with court procedures.” Following its filing for corporate rehabilitation on the 15th of last month, JTBC also applied for the Autonomous Restructuring Support (ARS) program. On the 30th of last month, the Seoul Bankruptcy Court approved JTBC’s ARS application and deferred its decision on whether to initiate corporate rehabilitation proceedings. However, it decided to initiate rehabilitation proceedings for four affiliates of the Joongang Group.
