[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] At this point, the Minions are a sure bet. Their cuteness is off the charts, and the laughs are overwhelming. The Minions, who have captivated both children and adults with their ingenious concepts and plot twists that go beyond imagination in every installment, have made a spectacular return with an even bigger scale and even more hilarious humor.

“Minions & Monsters” follows the chaotic film-making journey of Minions James, Henry, and Ed, who dream of becoming “10-million-viewer directors” with their debut film. Having repeatedly failed in their quest to find and serve the greatest villain of the era, the Minions arrive in 1920s Hollywood and accidentally become completely captivated by the allure of cinema. Though they made a name for themselves as silent film stars, they lose their footing with the dawn of the sound film era and decide to embark on a massive project: making their own monster movie. Setting out to find real monsters, the three friends awaken sealed creatures—from sea monsters to a giant pink rabbit—one by one, causing chaos beyond imagination.
In fact, the plot isn’t all that important. It doesn’t even need to make sense. *Minions & Monsters* is a film that brings the motto “Let the Minions do whatever they want!” to life on the big screen. Even as the absurd plot unfolds, you’ll find yourself bursting out laughing before you know it, and just as you’re laughing your head off, the next scene is already waiting. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand a single word the Minions say. This comedy, which relies solely on facial expressions, body language, and impeccable timing to elicit laughter, hits the mark once again. Just as you try to explain why it’s funny, another burst of laughter erupts.
But don’t be fooled into thinking this is just a cute movie. Scenes that movie lovers will appreciate are hidden throughout. From Harold Lloyd’s dizzying stunts, to Buster Keaton’s deadpan comedy, Charlie Chaplin’s physical comedy, and Tex Avery’s signature exaggerated animation style. Homages to the masters of early Hollywood and film history are woven throughout the film. Children will laugh with delight, while adults can enjoy the fun of spotting hidden references, exclaiming, “Oh, wait—this scene!” This is a film that movie lovers will find especially delightful.

You absolutely must not miss the post-credits scene. If you get up as soon as the end credits start rolling, you’ll be missing out. Not only do Gru and Dr. Nefario from *Despicable Me* make a surprise appearance, but the Minions’ signature antics continue nonstop until the very last note of the closing song. The movie isn’t truly complete until the theater lights come on.
The Korean-dubbed version also exceeds expectations. Actor Yoon Kyung-ho takes on the challenge of voice acting, playing four roles all by himself and adding plenty of subtle laughs with his signature laid-back charm.
“Minions & Monsters” is a film that’s all about “laughter.” If you want to laugh freely at the theater this summer, there’s no better choice than this. Directed by Pierre Copain. Runtime: 90 minutes. Opens July 15.
