According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for movie ticket sales on the 9th, “Moana” drew 66,806 viewers on the 8th. Its cumulative audience stands at 67,430.
Released on the 8th, “Moana” is this summer’s most dazzling ocean adventure film, in which Moana—a girl chosen by the sea—sets sail into uncharted waters alongside the legendary hero Maui to save a cursed island.
This film generated high anticipation as a live-action adaptation of the animated film of the same name, which was released in 2016 and sparked a global phenomenon. Rising star Catherine Lagaya plays Moana, while Dwayne Johnson plays Maui. Additionally, Broadway director Thomas Kail—whose stage direction in musicals such as “Hamilton” and “In the Heights” has been widely acclaimed—took the helm, further enhancing the film’s quality.
Second place went to *The Eye*, starring Shin Min-a. *The Eye* drew 50,516 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 981,322.
The Disney-Pixar animated film “Toy Story 5” drew 34,349 viewers that day. Its cumulative audience stands at 2,317,174. “The Swarm” took fourth place with 8,623 viewers, while “Wild Thing” ranked fifth with 4,218 viewers.
“Hope,” set to open on the 15th, took the top spot in advance ticket sales, with 208,399 tickets sold. “Hope” is the first feature film in 10 years from director Na Hong-jin—known for “The Chaser” and “The Yellow Sea”—since “The Wailing.”
