Secures Order for Ultra-High-Voltage Cables… Establishes Long-Term Supply Chain Partnership with UK Power Company
Establishing a Foothold to Strengthen Its Position in the UK and European Ultra-High-Voltage Power Markets
[E-Daily Reporter Kim Yeong-hwan ] ILJIN ELECTRIC(103590), a comprehensive power equipment manufacturer, has secured an 84.5 billion won contract to supply ultra-high-voltage cables in the UK, accelerating its expansion into the European power market. (Photo courtesy of ILJIN ELECTRIC) ILJIN ELECTRIC announced on the 10th that it has been awarded a contract for a section of a 400 kV ultra-high-voltage underground transmission line as part of a strategic project to reinforce the ultra-high-voltage transmission grid connecting eastern and southeastern England. The contract is valued at approximately 41.77 million pounds (about 84.5 billion won).
This project is a key transmission network construction initiative designed to reliably supply large-scale offshore wind power generated in eastern England to the southeastern region, where electricity demand is concentrated. It is regarded as a major infrastructure project supporting the UK government’s policies to expand renewable energy and decarbonize the power grid.
ILJIN ELECTRIC expressed confidence that this contract win demonstrates its technological capabilities and quality competitiveness even in the UK’s ultra-high-voltage power market, which is known for its high barriers to entry. In particular, by establishing a foundation for supply chain cooperation with UK power companies, the company expects to secure a favorable position for winning future large-scale power grid construction projects.
The company plans to use this contract as a springboard to expand its business beyond the UK into the UHV power markets across Europe.
An ILJIN ELECTRIC official stated, “This contract win is a significant achievement that demonstrates our UHV cable technology capabilities in the UK market, which is undergoing a major transformation of its power infrastructure,” adding, “We will actively participate in securing contracts for upcoming large-scale power grid expansion projects and expand our market presence across Europe.”
