Episode 5 of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama “Director Kim,” which aired on the 10th, recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 20.5% according to Nielsen Korea. Having already reached a rating of 21.6% in just its fourth episode, “Director Kim” once again surpassed the 20% mark in its fifth episode, proving the show’s popularity.
In that episode, Manager Kim (played by So Ji-sub) relentlessly grilled Kim Sang-man (played by Kim Dae-han), demanding to know the whereabouts of his daughter Min-ji (played by Seo Su-min). When Kim Sang-man said, “I just moved her after receiving a call from Ju Kang-chan’s (played by Ju Sang-wook) daughter. She was dead from the start,” Director Kim’s eyes instantly went blank, and he exploded with chilling rage, declaring, “If our Min-ji is really dead, everyone here is going to die starting right now.”
The collaboration between Seong Han-su (played by Choi Dae-hoon) and Park Jin-cheol (played by Yoon Kyung-ho) also continued. Park Jin-cheol subdued the Special Assignment Bureau agents, hijacked their escort vehicle, and appeared before Seong Han-su, who had just dragged “Ground Squirrel” (played by Won Hyun-joon) out of the river. Park Jin-cheol bragged, “Once I figure out the wind, the water currents, and the terrain, your movements are as predictable as can be,” and the two split up to secure weapons while evading the Special Mission Bureau’s pursuit, becoming Director Kim’s steadfast allies.

Amid this, Park Kang-sung (played by Kim Seong-gyu) appeared. The two engaged in a fierce, no-holds-barred battle. Park Kang-sung erupted in anger, accusing them of killing his older brother, Park Young-gwang (played by Ok Taec-yeon). In response, Director Kim revealed that the operation in which Park Young-gwang had been deployed was, from the very beginning, a trap set by Ri Eung-ryeong (played by Lee Jae-yong) to seize power.
He also recalled the conversation he’d had with Park Young-gwang the night before the operation, as well as the moment when Park Young-gwang—fatally wounded in the explosion—had grabbed Director Kim as he was about to take his own life and made his final plea: “No matter what happens, you must survive.” Director Kim told Park Kang-sung, “Survive. ‘Number 66’—no, those were Young-gwang’s last words to me,” and after relaying Park Young-gwang’s final plea to his younger brother, he set out to find Min-ji.
Meanwhile, inside the cold storage room, Min-ji launched a thrilling counterattack. Having secretly opened the door and hidden herself, Min-ji struck “Gold Tooth” (played by Jo Bok-rae) on the head with a metal pipe. She then escaped after swiftly subduing even the henchman who had regained consciousness after being thrown outside.
Shortly after, Manager Kim entered the cold storage room and, mistaking the security guard’s body for Min-ji for a split second, was overcome with extreme terror. However, upon discovering Min-ji’s handwritten note—“Dad, I’m sorry. I’m scared”—left on the frost-covered floor of the cold storage room, he realized his daughter was alive and rushed out into the pouring rain.

At the same time, Min-ji also made her way out of the maze-like container complex and ran to find help. Manager Kim climbed onto a container and, upon seeing Min-ji running away, desperately shouted, “Min-ji!” But Min-ji couldn’t hear his voice over the roar of the heavy rain, and they tragically missed each other.
Manager Kim eventually contacted Jeong Sang-ah (played by Son Na-eun) and asked her to track Min-ji’s movements using CCTV footage. Upon hearing Manager Kim’s words, “Everything will end only when we find Min-ji,” Jeong Sang-ah and the Special Assignment Bureau agents decided to cooperate. However, “Ground Squirrel,” having realized that Min-ji was Manager Kim’s weakness, ordered, “We’ll secure her as a hostage first,” heightening the tension.
Later, it was revealed that the car Min-ji had boarded after wandering in the rain—in search of help—was none other than Joo Kang-chan’s, sending chills down viewers’ spines. This raises the question of whether Director Kim, who is desperately tracking down his daughter, will be able to rescue Min-ji.
“Director Kim” is a father-centric revenge action drama set in a “Dad Universe,” where “the most ordinary dad in the world” becomes “the most dangerous man in the world” to fight and reclaim his only daughter.
Episode 6 will air on the 11th at 9:50 p.m.
