Its cumulative audience count stands at 511,078. Following “Moana,” the mystery thriller “The Eye,” starring Shin Min-a, took second place with 257,816 viewers over the weekend. “The Eye” has surpassed 1,277,263 cumulative viewers. Third place went to the Disney-Pixar animated film “Toy Story 5.” With 238,524 viewers, “Toy Story 5” continues its box office success even in its fourth week of release. “David” took fourth place with 57,676 viewers over the weekend, while “Gunchye” came in fifth with 37,008 viewers. “Moana” is an ocean adventure film in which Moana, a girl chosen by the sea, sets sail into uncharted waters alongside the legendary hero Maui to save a cursed island. It garnered high expectations from the production stage onward as a live-action adaptation of the animated film of the same name, which sparked a global phenomenon upon its release in 2016. Rising star Catherine Lagia plays Moana, while Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson plays Maui; the two have received critical acclaim for their high level of resemblance to their animated counterparts. Additionally, Broadway director Thomas Kail—whose stage direction in musicals such as “Hamilton” and “In the Heights” has been widely recognized—took the helm, further enhancing the film’s quality. With films like *Hope* and *Okay, Ma’am 2* set to hit theaters soon, the film industry is watching closely to see if *Moana* can maintain its box office momentum.
