[Edaily Reporter KYUNG GYEYOUNG ] #Youngone Corporation announced on the 13th that it had received the Daesang at the “2025 National Tree Plantation Award” presented by the Government of Bangladesh.
This award recognizes the contributions of the Korea Export Processing Zone (KEPZ)—established and operated by Youngone Corporation in Bangladesh—in environmental areas such as afforestation, forest conservation, and biodiversity protection. The National Tree Plantation Award is a prestigious environmental award presented by the Bangladeshi government to individuals and organizations that have contributed to afforestation, forest conservation, research, and innovation; KEPZ took first place in the institutional category. In connection with this, Sung Ki-hak, Chairman of Youngone Corporation, accepted the award on behalf of KEPZ from Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on the 9th.
Youngone Corporation’s KEPZ is cited as a prime example of eco-friendly management, having transformed 10.1 square kilometers (2,492 acres) of wasteland into an industrial complex rich in green spaces and water bodies. The group has designated 52% of the KEPZ site as green spaces and water bodies and has planted 3 million trees to date. It has also constructed 25 reservoirs capable of storing 600 million gallons of rainwater. The group is currently developing a 240,000-square-meter (60-acre) botanical garden, aiming to make it Bangladesh’s largest botanical conservation area by 2027.
An official from Youngone Corporation stated, “This award is recognition that KEPZ has evolved beyond a mere industrial complex to become a sustainable model that grows in harmony with the environment and the local community,” adding, “We will continue to make various efforts to foster healthy mutual growth.”
