[E-Daily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] ShinyoungSecurities announced on the 13th that it expects TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD ( TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD(010170)) to post strong earnings starting in the second quarter, as the sharp rise in optical fiber prices begins to be fully reflected in its results. However, the firm did not disclose its investment rating or target price. TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD is a company that produces and sells optical cables for various applications—including telecommunications, power, and defense—as well as optical fiber, the raw material for these cables. It has the capability to manufacture everything in-house, from preforms to finished optical cable products.

Jeong Won-seok, an analyst at ShinyoungSecurities, commented, “Since the company has primarily supplied general-purpose optical cable products, its earnings have been highly volatile due to fluctuations in optical fiber prices. However, as orders for ultra-high-fiber-count optical cables for data centers are gradually reflected in revenue, we expect both the quantity and quality of earnings to improve.”
As of 2025, TAIHAN Fiberoptics Co.,LTD’s revenue breakdown by product segment is 58% for the telecommunications business and 42% for the power business, with exports accounting for approximately 59% of total revenue.
He elaborated, “The data center optical cable order secured for the first time this year is an 864-core cable, which is more difficult to manufacture and more expensive than the existing mainstream 144-core product,” adding, “The sharp rise in generic optical fiber prices since early 2026 is also positive for future earnings.”
In particular, he emphasized, “As supply and demand in the Chinese market—which had previously driven down global optical fiber prices—have improved, it is understood that selling prices in China have surged from the $2.5 range last November to over $10 currently.” He added, “According to CRU (Commodities Research Unit), as demand for optical fiber for data centers in China is expanding, Chinese companies are now repurposing their general-purpose production lines to manufacture high-performance products for data centers.”
Earlier, first-quarter revenue reached 34.2 billion won, a 35% increase year-over-year, while the operating loss narrowed slightly year-over-year to 4.0 billion won. Analyst Jeong added, “While these results may seem disappointing given the sharp rise in optical fiber prices during the first quarter, it takes two to three months to produce and ship the products, so the increase in selling prices will begin to be fully reflected in sales starting in the second quarter,” noting, “We expect operating profit to reach the break-even point (BEP) in the second quarter.”
