[E-Daily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] NK(085310)is strengthening its shareholder return policy through a share buyback. NK announced on the 13th that it had signed a trust agreement for the purchase of 3 billion won worth of its own shares to stabilize its stock price and enhance shareholder value. (Photo courtesy of NK) This agreement is the second of its kind, following a trust agreement for the acquisition of treasury stock of the same scale signed last December. A treasury stock acquisition trust allows for flexible share purchases depending on market conditions; the repeated use of this mechanism is interpreted as an indication of the company’s intent to operate share buybacks not as a one-time event but as an ongoing means of shareholder returns. NK has been implementing a series of measures to enhance shareholder value since the beginning of this year. In April, it canceled 4.7 million shares of treasury stock it had previously acquired, and last month, it completed a 10-for-1 stock consolidation, improving per-share metrics such as earnings per share (EPS) and book value per share (BPS). With the addition of this latest share buyback, the company’s shareholder return policy—comprising share cancellation, stock consolidation, and share repurchases—appears to be strengthening. A company official stated, “This trust agreement demonstrates our commitment to the market that we will continue to pursue share buybacks,” adding, “Following the share cancellation and stock consolidation, we will continue our principle of responsible management by sharing our achievements with shareholders.” Meanwhile, NK is also working to strengthen its business competitiveness alongside shareholder returns. In addition to recovering orders for its core businesses, the company is expanding its Korean-style submarine business and hydrogen refueling infrastructure business, centered on its key subsidiaries. Its subsidiary, NK Adment, recently signed a contract with Seogwipo Medical Center in Jeju to supply a 12-person hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber. It is widely viewed that the company is demonstrating tangible business results by securing orders from public medical institutions following its acquisition of KGMP certification.
