CGV announced on the 13th, “In collaboration with the National Theater of Korea, we are hosting ‘Cinema Tour,’ a special screening series that brings the National Theater’s signature repertoire to the big screen.” “Cinema Tour” will take place every Tuesday from the 4th to the 18th of next month at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall.
“CGV X National Theater Cinema Tour” (Cinema Tour) is a program organized as part of “The Closest National Theater,” the National Theater’s performance video production project. A total of three of the National Theater’s signature works—including the Changgeuk “Farewell My Concubine,” “The Book of the Lion,” and “En-tong’s Nursery Rhyme Land 2”—will be presented on CGV’s large screens with high-quality sound. The program was designed to offer a new cultural experience that makes performing arts more accessible to the public.
The National Changgeuk Company’s “Changgeuk: Farewell My Concubine” is a work that depicts the tragic love story of Xiang Yu and Yu Xi through a blend of the spectacular movements of Peking Opera and the deep vocals of Changgeuk; it will be screened on August 4 at 7:00 p.m.
The National Dance Company’s “The Book of the Lion,” inspired by “The Tibetan Book of the Dead,” portrays the 49-day journey after death through Korean dance, music, and video, and will be presented on August 11 at 7:00 p.m.
The children’s concert “En-tong’s Nursery Rhyme Land 2,” where audiences can enjoy familiar nursery rhymes arranged in traditional Korean music alongside the National Theater’s mascot “En-tong,” will take place on August 18 at 2:00 p.m. It is set to offer a special cultural experience for children and families.
Following the screenings of “Pangwangbyeolhui” and “The Book of the Lion,” there will be a post-screening discussion (GV) with the creative team and cast members who participated in the productions. Additionally, special tickets will be provided to attendees of these screenings, and attendees of “Entongi’s Nursery Rhyme Land 2” will receive a sketchbook and a set of colored pencils as gifts.
Jang Ji-yeon, Head of the Content Operations Team at CJ CGV, said, “It is meaningful to be able to present the National Theater of Korea’s flagship performance content at CGV,” adding, “We will continue to strive to ensure that audiences can enjoy a broader range of cultural experiences at the theater through collaborations with various cultural and artistic fields.”
A National Theater of Korea official also remarked, “We hope that through this GV, audiences will have their questions about the production answered, communicate directly with the artists, and extend the lingering impact of the performance even further.” The official continued, “We expect this Cinema Tour to serve as an opportunity for audiences who have found it difficult to visit performance venues to become more familiar with the performing arts, and we hope it will lead to a new cultural experience where theater and film expand each other’s audiences.”
Applications to attend the “Cinema Tour” are available on the National Theater of Korea’s website, and tickets will be awarded free of charge via a lottery. Further details can be found on the CGV mobile app and the National Theater of Korea’s website.
