On the 12th, Ko Young-wook wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account, “I just wanted to make people laugh and live a happy life, but it seems hard to find a job in Korea,” adding, “I think I saw somewhere that there’s a shortage of male AV actors in Japan.” He went on to say, “If it’s legally possible—if the law allows it,” hinting at his desire to try his hand at becoming a Japanese AV actor.
Ko Young-wook, who debuted as a member of the band Lulla in 1994, was indicted on charges of sexually assaulting and indecently touching three minors on four separate occasions between July 2010 and December 2012. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in 2013. He was also ordered to wear an electronic ankle monitor for three years and have his personal information disclosed for five years.
Ko Young-wook completed his sentence and was released from prison in July 2015. At the time, he told reporters, “I’ve had time to reflect. From now on, I will live righteously with a fresh mindset.”
Ko Young-wook was effectively ousted from the entertainment industry following the incident. In 2020, he opened an Instagram account, but it was shut down due to policies restricting accounts operated by sex offenders. His YouTube channel, launched in 2024, was also taken down after about two weeks.
