[E-Daily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] WOOJIN Ntec Inc.(457550)has successfully localized the “Radiation Monitoring System MI (Mineral Insulated) Cable Assembly,” a core component for nuclear power plants with the highest safety rating (Q-Class). WOOJIN Ntec Inc. announced on the 14th that this component has been designated as a “selected development product” by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and will be supplied to domestic nuclear power plants via direct contracts over the next three years.

The radiation monitoring system MI cable assembly connects radiation detectors inside the reactor to control devices, supplying operating power and reliably transmitting minute radiation signals. It is a critical safety component for nuclear power plants that must maintain long-term stability and reliability even in environments characterized by high temperature, high pressure, high radiation, and high humidity.
WOOJIN Ntec Inc. succeeded in localizing the product through a three-year collaborative R&D project with KHNP’s Saeul Nuclear Power Plant No. 1. The product passed all performance tests and field application tests under various extreme conditions, including earthquakes, fires, and loss-of-coolant accidents.
Until now, South Korea has relied entirely on overseas suppliers for MI cable assemblies used in domestic nuclear power plants. The company expects that this localization effort will contribute to enhancing the stability and reliability of nuclear power plant operations by stabilizing the supply chain, reducing costs, shortening procurement lead times, and improving maintenance efficiency.
A company official stated, “The results of our ongoing research and development efforts—not only in the maintenance of instrumentation and control equipment but also in the localization of core components—are now becoming visible,” adding, “This will serve as an opportunity to break free from our reliance on foreign products and strengthen our product competitiveness in the nuclear power plant instrumentation and control sector.” The official further noted, “This technology can also be utilized as a core technology for entering overseas markets, beyond its application in domestic nuclear power plants.”
