[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] Following HYBE, artists from JYP Entertainment (JYP) have been selected as voting members of the Recording Academy, the organization that hosts the Grammy Awards.

According to JYP on the 14th, a total of 18 people—including Park Jin-young and members of TWICE (Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, Tzuyu) and Stray Kids (Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, I.N.)—have been selected as voting members of the Recording Academy.
Voting membership is a designation for music creators active in the recording industry, including artists, songwriters, producers, and engineers. It grants the right to participate in voting to select nominees and winners for the “Grammy Awards.”
JYP CEO Jeong Wook and JYP Chief Strategy Officer Shin Hyun-kook have been selected as Professional Members of the Recording Academy. Professional Membership is intended for music business professionals who directly support music creators; members can participate in the Recording Academy’s music industry community, various programs, networking opportunities, and the “Grammy Awards” submission process.
The “Grammy Awards” is a music awards ceremony that the Recording Academy has hosted since 1959. In the K-pop industry, HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk, BTS (RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook), and producer P.D.OG have been active as voting members since 2019.
Last year, Zico, SEVENTEEN’s Woozi and Vernon, TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s Yeonjun, ENHYPEN’s Jungwon, LE SSERAFIM’s Heo Yoon-jin, CAT’S EYE’s Daniela, Sofia, Manon, Megan, Yoonchae, and Lara, producers Beomju and Slow Rabbit, Supreme Boy, and Wonderkid—a total of 16 HYBE artists—were granted additional voting member status. In addition, HYBE CEO Lee Jae-sang became a new professional member.

◇New members selected following evaluation of existing members
The Grammy Awards are widely regarded as placing greater emphasis on musical excellence and artistic achievement compared to the Billboard Music Awards and the American Music Awards, which are often grouped together as the three major U.S. pop music awards ceremonies.
The Recording Academy, which organizes the awards, selects candidates for new membership each year through peer evaluations by existing members. Those nominated go through the relevant procedures to become new members.
The nominees and winners for this year’s 68th ceremony were reportedly selected by approximately 15,000 voting members. The Recording Academy does not disclose its full membership roster.
Meanwhile, among K-pop artists, BTS and BLACKPINK’s Rosé have been nominated for the Grammy Awards but have not yet won. At the 68th Grammy Awards held last February, “Golden,” the soundtrack from the Netflix animated series “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” became the first song in the K-pop category to win a Grammy Award.
The 69th Grammy Awards will be held on February 7 (local time) next year in Los Angeles, USA. With the introduction of the new “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category, there is growing speculation that K-pop artists’ chances of winning a Grammy Award have increased significantly.
The “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category honors artistic achievements in Asian pop music that was produced in the Asian market or is widely recognized in Asia. It includes K-pop, as well as Japan’s J-pop and China’s C-pop, and is open to recordings that make significant use of one or more Asian languages.
