(Photo = Mnet)"Girls Planet 2027" is the latest installment in Mnet’s "Planet" series. Previously, Mnet debuted the girl group Kep1er and the boy group Zero Base One through "Girls Planet 999: Girl Battle" and "Boys Planet," respectively. Last year’s "Boys 2 Planet" chronicled the formation of the boy group Alpha Drive One. “Girls Planet 2027,” which chronicles the formation of a new girl group, is currently in production with the goal of premiering next year. The show began accepting applications last May. Republic Collective is a label home to global pop artists such as Ariana Grande, Drake, Post Malone, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd. It also serves as a global activity partner for popular K-pop artists like Stray Kids and TWICE. The label was also responsible for the release and distribution of the soundtrack for the Netflix animated series “K-Pop Demon Hunters.” Mnet emphasized, “This partnership is a comprehensive collaboration covering the entire process, from the program’s production stage to the final debut group’s global activities.” The number of online applicants for “Girls Planet 2027” has surpassed 36,000. Applicants from the Americas—including North, Central, and South America—account for approximately 30% of the total. Mnet will also hold a large-scale on-site audition at “KCON LA 2026,” which takes place next month. The production team said, “Please look forward to seeing what new synergy and stories will emerge as participants from different cultures and backgrounds come together.”
