[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] COWINTECH Co., Ltd(282880)is expanding its intelligent robot platform business by applying vision-based autonomous driving technology to autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
COWINTECH Co., Ltd announced on the 15th that it has enhanced its autonomous driving architecture by integrating V-SLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), a vision-based autonomous driving technology, into its mass-produced AMRs. (Photo courtesy of COWINTECH Co., Ltd) V-SLAM is a technology that estimates position and perceives the surrounding environment based on camera footage. Unlike conventional LiDAR SLAM, which uses laser sensors to determine distance information, V-SLAM utilizes visual information—such as object recognition and motion prediction—to enable broader environmental perception. Recently, its scope of application has been expanding into various fields, including service robots, robotaxis, and Full Self-Driving (FSD).
COWINTECH Co., Ltd explained that it has implemented intelligent autonomous driving technology by analyzing the position and spatial information generated by V-SLAM in real time on the NVIDIA Jetson AI platform and integrating it with a ROS2 (Robot Operating System 2)-based robot control system, enabling the robot to navigate while independently assessing its surroundings.
The company anticipates that V-SLAM technology will be highly applicable to humanoid and quadruped robots, which require navigation of complex paths and three-dimensional recognition of posture changes and surrounding terrain. The company plans to first apply the technology to AMRs and then expand it to various robot platforms, thereby strengthening its intelligent robot platform business, which encompasses autonomous driving technology and integrated control systems.
A COWINTECH Co., Ltd official stated, “Since vision-based autonomous navigation technology is still in the early stages of commercialization in the domestic industrial AMR market, it is significant that we have pioneered its implementation,” adding, “Having advanced our autonomous navigation technology to the next level by internalizing V-SLAM technology, we will expand our supply channels and business scale into various industries.”
