Hwang Young-woong’s OST Track Released Without the KBS Drama Title… Why?

[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] “If You Love Me,” performed by singer Hwang Young-woong, was released on the 14th as a standalone track unrelated to the OST for the KBS 2TV weekend drama “I Prescribe Love,” following a series of setbacks. This came after the OST production company, Nyam Nyam Entertainment, accepted revision requests from KBS and the drama’s production company, HB Entertainment.

“If You Love Me
” is a trot ballad that explores the theme of words left unsaid to a loved one. Initially, NyamNyam Entertainment produced this song as the final OST track for “I Prescribe Love.”
However, controversy erupted after it became known that Hwang Young-woong had participated in the recording. Critics argued that it was inappropriate for a song performed by a singer facing allegations of school violence to be released as the OST for a terrestrial TV drama. A petition calling for the withdrawal of the song’s release was even posted on the KBS Viewer Center’s petition board.
As the controversy grew, KBS issued a statement saying, “Regardless of the controversy surrounding the singer (Hwang Young-woong), we have officially raised concerns with the OST production company regarding their promotion of a track—which KBS never approved as part of the *Prescription for Love* OST—as if it were an official OST.”
The drama’s production company, HB Entertainment, stated, “We are currently conducting a legal review and taking necessary steps to address the release of a track not used in the broadcast, which utilizes the drama’s title, the KBS name, and drama-related assets.”
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding “If You Love Me” intensified after NyamNyam Entertainment announced that it would release the track as scheduled, stating, “There were no issues with the production process for the song performed by Hwang Young-woong.”
In a statement, Nyam Nyam Entertainment argued, “The casting of OST vocalists is a production task carried out by the OST production company in accordance with contracts with the drama production company and proper copyright procedures,” adding, “We proceeded with the casting after determining there were no issues through the relevant procedures, and we did not forcefully push through any matters.”
They added, “While we are disappointed that the track will not be used in the drama, since production has already been completed, we have decided to release it as scheduled through music streaming sites so that fans and listeners can enjoy it.”

◇OST Production Company CEO: “Measures Taken to Ensure No Issues”
The track “If You Love Me” was released as scheduled at 6 p.m. on the 14th via various online music platforms. However, the title of the drama, “I Prescribe Love,” was omitted from the song description, and the cover image was replaced with a photo of Hwang Young-woong instead of a scene from the drama.
Due to the rushed revisions, the track was classified as a drama OST, but it took on an unusual form in which the specific drama it was from was not indicated.
Song Dong-woon, CEO of NyamNyam Entertainment, explained in a phone call with E-Daily on the 15th, “We accepted the requests from KBS and the drama production company to release the track as a general music single unrelated to ‘I Prescribe Love,’ excluding the KBS logo and the drama’s title,” adding, “We have taken measures to ensure there are no potential issues.”
He added, “Hwang Young-woong’s agency also conveyed that they wanted to release it as a general single, given that fans were eagerly awaiting it, which is another reason we proceeded with the release.”
CEO Song personally produced “If You Love Me.” He said, “We cast Hwang Young-woong because of his beautiful voice. He maintained a polite and respectful attitude throughout the recording process,” adding, “It’s a shame the song wasn’t featured in the drama, but since it’s been released as a digital single, I hope many people will listen to it.”
Meanwhile, Hwang Young-woong gained popularity after appearing on the 2023 MBN trot competition program “Burning Trot Man,” but voluntarily withdrew ahead of the second round of the finals when various allegations—including school bullying, a prior conviction for assault, and dating violence—surfaced.
At the time, Hwang Young-woong released a statement on his social media accounts, saying, “I will not make excuses by saying these were incidents from my childhood. I will reflect on the past, clear up any misunderstandings, and offer a sincere apology.” However, he added, “I sincerely ask for forgiveness from those who were hurt by my actions. But regarding the stories that are not true, I want to set the record straight—if only for the sake of those who have believed in me.”
Subsequently, in January, Hwang Young-woong denied the school violence allegations through his agency, Golden Voice. At the time, the agency released a statement saying, “A significant portion of the allegations circulated to date are either maliciously edited or one-sided claims whose facts have not been verified,” adding, “While there may have been disputes or periods of waywardness among friends during his school days, there is no truth to the claims that he continuously bullied a specific individual or engaged in sadistic acts as reported.”
