Distributor Daewon Media announced on the 15th that the film “The Secret World of Arrietty” has been confirmed for a 4K remastered release on the 19th of next month.
“The Secret World of Arrietty” is an animated film depicting the unforgettable summer memories of a 10-centimeter-tall girl who lives by borrowing human belongings and a human boy. It is considered one of Studio Ghibli’s signature works.
"The Secret World of Arrietty" is based on "The Borrowers" by Mary Norton, winner of the Carnegie Medal, the UK’s most prestigious children’s literature award. Studio Ghibli’s *The Secret World of Arrietty*, based on the story of a family of tiny people living alongside humans, not only won the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 2011 Japan Academy Awards but also became a global box office hit, grossing $100 million.
The teaser poster, released alongside the announcement of the film’s release, draws attention with the image of “Arietty” cautiously peering out at the world while hiding behind a large leaf. The silhouette of “Arietty”—wearing a red dress and with her hair tied back tightly—conveys her unique charm and mystery, while the tagline, “I mustn’t be seen by humans,” hints at the secretive life of the tiny family living quietly in the human world, heightening anticipation for the special fantasy the film will offer.
Released in 2010, *The Secret World of Arrietty* was a hit, drawing 1.06 million viewers at the time. Hayao Miyazaki, founder of Studio Ghibli and a renowned Japanese animation director, served as producer and screenwriter, while Hiromasa Yonebayashi directed the film.
