[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] The film “Hope” is extending its domestic box office success to North America. Ahead of its North American release in September, Director Na Hong-jin will attend San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC)—the world’s largest content festival—to meet global audiences first.

Distributor Plus M Entertainment announced on the 17th that Director Na Hong-jin will attend Comic-Con, taking place in San Diego, U.S., on the 23rd (local time). Following its domestic box office success, the film is now launching a full-scale global promotional campaign ahead of its North American release.
Unseen footage from the film will be unveiled for the first time at the event. International actress Jung Ho-yeon will open the session, and Director Na is scheduled to personally discuss the film’s production process and directorial intent during a Q&A session with the audience.
The Comic-Con poster released alongside the announcement features the back view of Beom-seok, the head of the Hopo-hang branch office, as he flees from a mysterious entity. By concisely capturing the unknown threat and extreme tension, the poster heightens curiosity about the film.
“Hope” continues its box office run in South Korea as well. After holding the No. 1 spot in advance ticket sales for 11 days leading up to its release, it drew 330,000 viewers on its opening day, setting the highest opening-day record of the year. Since then, it has maintained its position at the top of the box office and high advance ticket sales, leading the summer box office.
Critical acclaim for the film’s artistic merit is also pouring in. Director Lee Chang-dong described it as “a film at the pinnacle of entertainment,” while Director Bong Joon-ho praised it as “an amazing cinematic adventure” and “a film bursting with audacity and madness.”
“Hope” is set to reach global audiences starting with its North American release on September 9.
