According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 17th, “HOPE” surpassed 1 million cumulative viewers around noon that day. This is one day faster than “Gunchye,” which reached 1 million viewers in four days, and marks the fastest pace among films released in 2026.
“HOPE” has maintained its overwhelming box office momentum, holding the No. 1 spot for two consecutive days starting from its opening day. On its opening day, it set the highest opening-day record of the year, and it has consistently led in advance ticket sales, driving the summer box office.
In particular, the film is generating a wave of repeat viewings, with high advance ticket sales not only in standard theaters but also in special formats such as Dolby Cinema, IMAX, ScreenX (multi-screen format), and 4DX (4-dimensional movie screening system). As word-of-mouth from actual viewers spreads, expectations for a long-term box office run are also growing.
“Hope” tells the story of Beom-seok, the head of the Hopo Port branch office near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), who, after receiving reports from local youths about a tiger sighting, is confronted with an unbelievable series of events that shake the entire village. Directed by Na Hong-jin, the film stars Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Cameron Britton.
