Coupang Play announced on the 16th that it will release the film “Collective” via its pay-per-view service starting on the 23rd. “Collective” is a Korean zombie action blockbuster in which survivors inside a building sealed off due to an unidentified infection fight a relentless battle against constantly evolving infected creatures. It has received critical acclaim for its unique premise—which sets it apart from conventional zombie films—as well as its intense action and suspenseful plot.
In particular, it garnered early attention from the international film community after making its world premiere at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival. Expectations were also high as it marked director Yeon Sang-ho’s latest work following “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula.” Jeon Ji-hyun made headlines with her return to the big screen for the first time in 11 years since the film *Assassination*, and the cast—including Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo—came together to form a solid ensemble.
Its box office performance was also impressive. “The Outlaws” surpassed 5.92 million cumulative viewers, establishing itself as one of this summer’s top hits. The film also enjoyed global success, including topping the all-time box office chart for Korean films in Malaysia, and Jeon Ji-hyun became the first Korean actress to win the “Asia Special Star Award” at the 25th New York Asian Film Festival.
Coupang Play is strengthening its competitiveness in film content by consecutively streaming hit theatrical releases such as *The Man Who Lives with the King*, *Salmokji*, *What If We...*, and now *The Squad*. Attention is now focused on whether *The Squad* will be able to carry the momentum of its theatrical success into the online streaming market.
