Following its release, it gained massive popularity, ranking No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks. Previously, the music video for this song became the first in YouTube history to surpass 1 billion views in December 2012. In December 2023, it reached the 5 billion view milestone. “Gangnam Style” is the first K-pop music video to surpass 6 billion views on YouTube. Among music videos worldwide, it currently ranks fifth all-time, following Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito,” which has surpassed 9 billion views, and Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” which has exceeded 7 billion views.
