This meeting—the first hosted by South Korea since it acceded to the UNESCO World Heritage Convention—is an international conference discussing the preservation and utilization of World Heritage sites, as well as new inscriptions, and was attended by delegations from around the world. On that day, G-Dragon delivered a speech on the themes of cultural heritage preservation and peace. He began by saying, “I would like to express my gratitude to UNESCO, which has long safeguarded humanity’s precious heritage, and to all the attendees,” and then introduced the host city, Busan, as “a city that has transformed the scars of war into peace and hope.” He continued, “Preserving heritage is not merely about conserving the past; it is about building peace for the future,” adding, “Art has the power to move people’s hearts and change the world. As an artist, I will do my part to protect World Heritage sites that are at risk of disappearing due to war and the climate crisis.” The Cultural Heritage Administration explained that G-Dragon was selected as a Goodwill Ambassador in recognition of his consistent efforts to convey messages of peace through his music and artistic activities, as well as the alignment of the activities of the public interest foundation he established, the “JUSPEACE Foundation,” with the values pursued by UNESCO. In conjunction with his appointment, G-Dragon will also launch the “HERITAGE IN PEACE” campaign for the World Heritage Fund through the JUSPEACE Foundation. The funds raised through the campaign will be donated to the UNESCO World Heritage Fund in the name of the people of the Republic of Korea. G-Dragon is set to continue his global activities starting this August with the “XX: COSMOS” world tour, marking the 20th anniversary of his group Big Bang’s debut.
