An EDAM Entertainment official explained in a phone call with Edaily that day, “We submitted the relevant petition to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on the 15th.”
EDAM Entertainment has determined that Mr. A posted 52 malicious posts containing false information through his social media accounts, including △allegations of plagiarism, △false claims regarding IU’s achievements in China and overseas, and △allegations of media control and public opinion manipulation.
However, EDAM Entertainment has been unable to identify Mr. A’s identity and has consequently faced difficulties in securing the evidence necessary for the defamation lawsuit currently underway in South Korea. Accordingly, the company filed a motion for discovery with a U.S. court, requesting that Meta submit subscriber information—including Mr. A’s name, address, phone number, email address, and IP address.
Previously, in February, EDAM Entertainment issued a statement announcing, “Last year, we filed criminal complaints and civil lawsuits against a total of 96 individuals who posted malicious content targeting IU, including defamation, insults, dissemination of false information, malicious slander, and sexual harassment.”
At the time, EDAM Entertainment emphasized, “We are responding sternly not only to malicious online posts but also to illegal acts that infringe upon the privacy of our artists and their families or threaten their personal safety,” adding, “We will hold the perpetrators strictly accountable to the fullest extent, without any settlement or leniency.”
