Lalapang Tablets received marketing authorization from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety last May as a pre-procedure medication for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy and are scheduled to be launched at the end of this month.

LaraPang Tablets are a tablet formulation designed to reduce the burden associated with taking existing liquid bowel preparation solutions. The company explained that while liquid products required patients to drink large amounts of liquid and caused discomfort due to their distinctive taste, LaraPang Tablets reduce these burdens and improve the convenience of taking the medication.

The company announced that in a Phase 3 clinical trial involving 240 patients requiring bowel preparation prior to a colonoscopy, it demonstrated non-inferiority in bowel preparation efficacy compared to an active control and confirmed the product’s safety.

The dosage has also been reduced by approximately 29%, from 28 tablets in existing tablet-based bowel preparation products to 20 tablets. The company explained that it has reduced the size and weight of the tablets to further minimize the burden of taking the medication.

The domestic bowel preparation market is estimated to be worth approximately 50 billion won. Recently, the market has been expanding as demand grows for tablet-form products that offer greater convenience.

A representative from VIVOZON PHARMACEUTICAL stated, “LaraPang Tablets were developed to reduce the burden patients feel when taking medication during the preparation process for colonoscopies,” adding, “With its launch at the end of this month, we will provide healthcare professionals and patients with a new treatment option and strengthen our competitiveness in the bowel preparation market.”
