[London (UK) = E-Daily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] SamsungElectronics(005930)has unveiled artificial intelligence (AI) glasses that recognize the user’s visual and auditory environment to provide translation, navigation, and recording functions. Designed to resemble ordinary glasses, the device incorporates a camera, microphone, and speaker, allowing users to utilize AI without having to take out their smartphones.

On the 22nd, at “Galaxy Unpacked 2026” held at Old Billingsgate in London, UK, SamsungElectronics unveiled the key features of its “Intelligent Eyewear” and two new designs.

Intelligent Eyewear is a product that incorporates the hardware technology SamsungElectronics has accumulated through smartphones and wearable devices into a form that closely resembles regular eyeglasses. Global eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker participated in the product design.

Choi Won-jun, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of SamsungElectronics’ MX Business Division, said, “Intelligent Eyewear is a new touchpoint that naturally recognizes the context of everyday life to provide a more personalized AI experience.”

Understanding What You See and Hear… Hands-Free Translation and Navigation

Intelligent Eyewear runs on the Android Extended Reality (XR) platform jointly developed by SamsungElectronics and Google. The eyewear device is equipped with the first-generation Snapdragon AR1 chip, as well as a camera, sensors, a microphone, and a speaker.

Users can utilize voice commands, gestures, and visual information captured by the camera to perform key functions—such as checking messages, translation, navigation, and note-taking—without using their hands.

For example, when looking at a menu abroad, the camera recognizes the foreign language, and Google Gemini delivers the translated text as voice output through the glasses’ speakers. It also supports real-time recognition and translation of what the person you’re talking to is saying.

Users can also use the camera to record whiteboards, documents, and meeting scenes they are viewing, which are then automatically organized in the Samsung Notes app on a Galaxy smartphone. The device also provides features that recognize the surrounding environment to provide directions or link the current situation with previously saved information to maintain a continuous conversation.

Samir Samat, President of Google’s Android Ecosystem Division, said, “We look forward to introducing a hands-free experience powered by Gemini AI and featuring design excellence through Android XR-based intelligent eyewear in the near future.”

Up to 9 hours on a single charge… 7 additional charges via the case

SamsungElectronics focused its design on weight, thickness, left-right balance, and durability, taking into account the nature of a product worn on the face for extended periods.

Components such as the camera, sensors, microphone, speaker, and processor were distributed throughout the frame to prevent the weight from shifting to one side. SamsungElectronics explained that it took into account not only the areas where the glasses come into contact with the face—such as the forehead and ears—but also a variety of face shapes and head sizes.

The battery provides up to 9 hours of use on a single charge. Using the dedicated charging case allows for up to 7 additional charges. However, specific details such as exact weight, camera resolution, battery capacity, and product price were not disclosed during this announcement.

Gentle Monster and Warby Parker Participate… Four Designs in Total

At this Unpacked event, two additional models—one each designed by Gentle Monster and Warby Parker—were unveiled.

The Gentle Monster collaboration model combines a slim, black-toned frame with a straight upper rim and a rounded lower rim. The design focuses on giving the impression of a fashion accessory rather than an electronic device.

The Warby Parker collaboration model features a brown color scheme and a slightly raised brow line, designed to be worn comfortably in everyday life.

SamsungElectronics and Google first unveiled two intelligent eyewear designs at “Google I/O 2026,” held in California, U.S., last May. With the addition of these two models at this Unpacked event, the total number of revealed designs has increased to four.

The smart eyewear is scheduled for release later this year. Specific release dates, countries of availability, and pricing will be announced at a later time.
